About Us

Our Vision

The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Loveland Events is a group of volunteers who coordinate, sponsor, promote and support local events, community projects and educational opportunities for justice, equality, diversity, peace and non-violence based on the teachings, legacy, and values of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

We foster acceptance, equality, and diversity in the Loveland community through a variety of activities and support local efforts, citizen initiatives and individuals working on many issues related to civil rights.

Our History

Loveland's Martin Luther King, Jr. Day community celebration each January has been our primary event since 1989. This event celebrates and educates the public about the value and importance of Dr. King’s message.  Selecting a quote or passage of Dr. King's each year, it is used to provide a theme for the MLK Holiday celebration.  Working to extend his vision beyond that celebration, the quote is used as a framework for events, discussion groups, speaker series, art and writing projects and many other activities throughout the year.

City and Statewide Recognition

Our City Council has endorsed our work with special proclamations to honor the teachings of Dr. King and unanimously committing to govern in Loveland based on the principle that diversity is the foundation of a strong community and thriving democracy.

In September of 2016, MLK Loveland Events was recognized as a Chapter of Denver’s Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Colorado Holiday Commission—sponsor of Humanitarian and Business Awards, the annual  "Marade" (largest march and parade held in the United States), the Denver Symphony's Dr. Martin Luther King Tribute Concert, and many youth scholarships.  Established in 1985, the Commission’s experience and national prominence foster a strong model for achievements in Larimer County and Northern Colorado.

Who’s Involved?

For more than three decades, volunteers comprised of concerned citizens, educators, business owners, philanthropists, artists, community leaders, project managers and more have created events with the support of many organizations.  We work with municipalities, businesses, non-profits, service organizations and educational institutions in Loveland, northern Colorado, and the Denver metro area to provide exceptional programming free to the public.

We have been honored to  collaborate with the City of Loveland, the Thompson School District, Loveland Integrated School for the Arts (LISA) , No Place for Hate, Loveland Public Library, Loveland Museum, League of Women Voters of Larimer County, AIMS Community College, University of Northern Colorado, Colorado State University, and the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Colorado Holiday Commission, to name a few.
